LUCKNOW: A student of the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, Colonel RP Mishra has lodged a complaint with the institute director alleging inappropriate conduct of a faculty inside the classroom.
Colonel Mishra, who is part of the six-month General Management Programme (GMP) for defence officers at IIML, in a mail to the director (TOI has a copy of it) dated September 24 stated that the faculty used “insulting, humiliating and unprofessional language towards Indian Armed Forces, called them cheats and passed a remark that all the professional exams (related to armed forces) are passed by cheating”.
Talking to TOI, Colonel RP Mishra said, “Forget about an action, my mail has not even been acknowledged by the director of such a premier institute.”
In his email to IIM-L director Prof Archana Shukla, Col Mishra wrote that when he confronted the professor, he withdrew his statement albeit without rendering an apology.
Seeking investigation, the complainant requested Prof Shukla to assign a different faculty to undertake classes as an interim measure. “There is hardly any learning value in his classes since most of the monologues are aimed at exhibiting his knowledge and wisdom devoid of imparting any learning value to the participants,” read the complaint.
Chairperson, Corporate Communication and Media Relations, IIM-L, Prof Shubhda Arora told TOI, “This issue involves discussions between individual students and faculty inside a classroom and is sacrosanct. The difference of opinion is individual. It’s a two-month-old issue and IIM-L has clearly laid down procedures for grievance handling involving class representatives, program directors and the MDP office, and all procedures have been duly followed.”
She added, “IIM-L was the first one to start Defence General Management Programs. This particular program is the 25th in this long series. The said professor has coordinated five programs for defence forces. Our long association with defence forces proves mutual respect and trust.”
