Mumbai: Hanuman Chalisa played on loudspeaker at MNS office after Raj Thackeray’s warning; party worker fined Rs 5,500 | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: The Mumbai police on Sunday detained Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) worker for playing Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers outside their party office in Mumbai.
This development comes a day after Raj Thackeray demanded that loudspeakers of mosques be shut down.

Addressing a rally on the occasion of Gudi Padwa on Saturday, Thackeray had questioned why loudspeakers in mosques are played at such high volume?, adding, “If this is not stopped, there will be speakers outside mosques playing Hanuman Chalisa at higher volume,” he said, speaking at a rally at Shivaji Park here.
A Ghatkopar police station official said Mahendra Bhanushali was detained after he installed loudspeakers on a tree and started playing Hanuman Chalisa in Himalaya society in Asalfa in Chandivali.

“A police team arrived at the spot, detained Bhanushali, and seized the sound equipment. He was released some two hours later. Bhanushali was fined Rs 5,500 and a notice under CrPC section 149 has been issued to him to not repeat the act,” he said.
However, Bhanusahli condemned the police’s actions and said he was being harassed for “performing aarti”.
The MNS leader added that if the MVA govt didn’t act, they would again play Hanuman Chalisa, but this time on big speakers in front of mosques.
