Evil Dead Rise is in post-production, while Sam Raimi unveils Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Although he didn’t direct this film, he’s given it his blessing and worked closely with director Lee Cronin to ensure it gets a fan stamp of approval. Funny that followers of Raimi would bring up the famed cult horror franchise now. It’s probably because Bruce Campbell is in Doctor Strange and not Evil Dead Rise. Yes, sadly, the legendary Mr. Campbell won’t be making his appearance in this new installment following the horrors of the Necronomicon. However, he is working with Lee Cronin in post-production to help develop the movie and get the feel right.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Although there is no release date set for Evil Dead Rise, it is confidently expected to release sometime this year. Until then, if you want to get a feel for this new Evil Dead director. Sam Raimi has said he enjoyed watching Cronin’s The Hole in the Ground. The movie is about a single mother who finds her lost child but expects that her son might not be the one who has returned to her. While fans might worry every time an old favorite gets redone (call it the Star Wars curse), this new take on Evil Dead seems to have met the muster.

Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about Evil Dead Rise.

The Evil Dead Rise Plot

A synopsis of the plot reads:

“When road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment, the sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building. The book’s contents, spoken aloud, give rise to flesh-possessing demons, and Beth finds herself thrust into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

Interestingly, this particular Evil Dead movie will be set in a city. While Evil Dead just about created the play on the cliché of a cabin in the woods, it has become a bit of a hackneyed concept. Even as a parody, it seems tired at this point. So, this new setting of an apartment complex could be good ground for creative expansion. Also, the last time Lee Cronin chose a subject at which to point his lens, it was a single mother as well. Not only does that mean he has experience working with that emotional premise, but it also implies that there is something in that subject that Cronin must want to explore. It’s a clue hinting at truthful passion, which is always what you want from people who make movies.

With the power of the Necronomicon unleashed inside of a city, the whole place could be taken over. Not only that, but the skyscraper in the poster for the movie seems rather tall, so perhaps that escape might only come from going up. The synopsis also mentions a “nightmarish version of motherhood,” so it’s probably no doubt that the kids will get possessed. Aside from that, there is little we know about the film so far. But diehard fans should have no fear with Sam Raimi’s stamp of approval.

Additional good news includes Rob Tapert helping to produce the film. And as always, Bruce Campbell is keeping a close watch over everything that’s happening with the Necronomicon. And everyone can feel just a little bit safer with him involved.

The Evil Dead Rise Cast

Though Bruce Campbell isn’t in this film, several excellent actors are — Alyssa Sutherland being first among them. Not in any way related to Kiefer Sutherland, Alyssa played Ragnar’s second wife, Queen Aslaug, in the hit series Vikings. She also starred in the 2017 TV series The Mist, based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. And before that, you might have caught her in The Devil Wears Prada as the clacker who got rebuked by Meryl Streep.

Lily Sullivan also stars. An accomplished actor and model, she is known for her role in the Australian comedy Mental. She’s performed in several shorts and the TV miniseries Romper Stomper which takes place 25 years after the events of the very important film of the same name. Other actors include Nell Fisher, Jayden Daniels, Tai Wano, Gabrielle Echols, and Billy Reynolds-McCarthy.

After they came out, they starred in the series The End and a short entitled Beautiful They. And for all you anime fans, Davies will be showing up as Koby in the new One Piece live-action TV series.
