Catch a sneak peek at the new movie Cryo with our exclusive clip from the film. A sci-fi thriller with a dash of whodunit mystery, the movie follows a group of scientists awakening from a cryogenic sleep and find themselves targeted by an unknown killer. In our exclusive clip, which you can check out below, one scientist decides to venture outside to look for answers about their predicament, unaware of the horrors that could be awaiting.
Cryo is directed by Barrett Burgin and co-written by Burgin and Mason D. Davis. Matthew Siemers and Westin Cross produced while Burgin and Davis executive produced with Colton Elzey. The film stars Jyllian Petrie, Mason D. Davis, Emily Marie Palmer, Morgan Gunter, Curt Doussett, and Michael Flynn. You can read the official synopsis below.
“Sometimes the real nightmare is being awake. Five scientists awake from a cryogenic sleep and find themselves trapped in an underground facility. With no memory of who they are or how long they’ve been asleep, they begin to realize they may have been part of a scientific experiment gone wrong. After a series of strange events, the scientists find themselves being hunted. They do not know who is hunting them or for what reason, but the scientists begin to suspect that one of them may be the killer.”
Cryo Offers Viewers a Unique Experience
This is not your traditional sci-fi movie, and the way Cryo is told is a bit different from what many genre fans might be used to. In our review of the film, Ashley Hajimirsadeghi says that the way the story is told works out well, especially with the mystery aspects that have been incorporated into the plot.
“Though it may be daring to say that Cryo may be an experiment itself, it comes across like that at times. It employs a nontraditional mode of storytelling, choosing to slowly reveal information and contexts through the use of character flashbacks, which is convenient but keeps the tension and mystery alive,” Hajimirsadeghi says.
“This is not a novelty or something completely new, but with the many plot twists that come throughout, it goes through a balancing act between the present and past,” Hajimirsadeghi goes on to explain. “There are many whodunnit stories released in the past couple of years, ranging from Agatha Christie adaptations to a hit like Knives Out, all of which somehow seem to include Kenneth Branagh. The mashup of the genre in this movie makes it stand out from traditional whodunnit often seen in the movie and television worlds, making it an interesting case study that seems almost like a nod to some of its science fiction predecessors.”
The review adds, “Despite being an indie movie, Cryo is up there in terms of quality. It does not feel like it is missing something specific unless one is coming in with a very certain expectation, defying its destiny to be completely lost in the void of indie science fiction.”
Cryo is now playing in theaters and is also available on demand and digital.
