Investing.com — Only weeks after acquiring the national carrier Air India from the Government, Tata Group has announced the appointment of Ilker Ayci, as the new CEO and Managing Director of Air India on Monday.

The former chairman and board member of Turkish Airlines, Ilker Ayci has been appointed as the CEO and MD of the now Tata-owned Air India, and post regulatory approvals, Ayci is expected to take charge of his position on or before April 1, 2022.

The board of Air India met in the afternoon today and approved Ayci’s candidature.

While announcing Ayci’s appointment, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran stated that Ilker has been an aviation industry leader who led Turkish Airlines to its current success during his tenure there, and expects him to lead Air India into the new era.

Ilker Ayci noted, “Working closely with my colleagues at Air India and the leadership of the Tata Group, we will utilize the strong heritage of Air India to make it one of the best airlines in the world with a uniquely superior flying experience that reflects Indian warmth and hospitality.”

The 51-year old new CEO & MD of Air India was born in Istanbul and is a 1994 alumni of Bilkent University, and did a research stay on political science at the Leeds University in the UK in 1995.
