Following the constant harassment directed at its developers, Bungie is suing a Destiny 2 player. As some tweets posted online show, the user in question even threatened the community manager of the development studio, claiming that he would not be “safe”. For the Bellevue software house it was the straw that broke the camel’s back: the team announced its intention to reduce direct communications with the community.

Developers Threatened Online, Bungie Strikes Back

In response to a tweet from Fallout Plays, a youtuber well known to Destiny fans, the community manager of Bungie (Dylan ‘dmg04’ Gafner) revealed that communications between his company and the players are increasingly tense because of the toxic behavior of some users.

The spokesperson for the software house spoke of real forms of abuse to which the developers have been subjected in this period: “I dream of a day when game developers (from any studio) can openly discuss their work without being harassed”.

Gafner then added: “The cases of harassment against our developers they have made communication with the community more difficult. […] I hope that more people in the future decide to oppose this behavior in any community, be it related to video games or other “.

For the most active members of the Destiny 2 community, dmg04’s statements don’t raise too many surprises. Last May Dylan Gafner was in fact threatened by a player, such Luca ‘miffysworld’ Leone. In the past, the latter has broadcast several matches on Twitch in which he used cheats to get the better of other players in competitive matches. In an attempt to evade the Bungie bans, Leone would even have created 13 different accounts.

The most serious crime committed by Leone concerns the real tweets he shared from his profile threat messages addressed to Bungie and some of its developers.“I just realized that I am moving to a place that is 30 minutes away from dmg. Not safe, wrote Leone on May 19. In other tweets the user warned Bungie of “keep the doors closed”with threats of arson and other harassment targeting communications officers.

Bungie filed a lawsuit against Luca ‘miffysworld’ Leone. “As Bungie has proven time and time again, he will not allow his game, community or employees to be abused, scammed or threatened. Leone has done all three and this action is the consequence. Regarding the cheat allegations, the company has shown that Leone is a member of OGUsersa forum dedicated to Destiny 2 hacking and unauthorized trading of emblems and other content.

Recall that a few hours ago Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially completed the acquisition of Bungie, a deal worth 3.6 billion dollars. Now the American software house in all respects part of PlayStation Studios, but Bungie has repeatedly reiterated that Destiny 2 will remain a cross-platform titleas will his future productions.
