Women’s 400-meter hurdles semifinals: 9:15 p.m. Eastern (Peacock, USA)
This event should be a race between Sydney McLaughlin and the clock. McLaughlin easily broke her world record at the U.S. championships, running a mind-boggling 51.41 seconds that would have qualified her for the regular 400 final. The world championships should not be as easy, with fellow American Dalilah Muhammad, the 2019 world champion, and Femke Bol of the Netherlands both in the field, but they will most likely push McLaughlin to run even faster.
Women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase: 10:45 p.m. Eastern (Peacock, USA)
Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan comes into this race as a favorite with a personal best of 8 minutes 53.65 seconds. Only Winfred Mutile Yavi of Bahrain has run faster than her this season. Americans Courtney Frerichs, the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist in the event, and Emma Coburn, a two time steeplechase world championship medalist, could also find themselves on the podium.
