Like a bolt from the blue, yesterday Microsoft announced the arrival of Discord on all Xbox consolesso be on Series X | S than on One X and S. The closeness between the two companies has already emerged last year, when there was talk of the possible acquisition of Discord by Microsoft, an eventuality that was later vanish and later completely closed after the platform made an agreement with Sony.
Despite this, it seems that Discord and the Redmond company have nevertheless continued to work closely to bring the messaging application to Xbox, or at least part of it. According to what Microsoft announced yesterday, in fact, at the moment he will be alone Discord Voice to land on consolesthat is the part of the app that deals with allowing voice communication between users scattered between the various channels of the service.
The integration is currently available only for Xbox users enrolled in the Insider program (and only for a limited number of users), so we’re not talking about the full release for everyone. The feature will then need to be tested for a while longer before being deployed to the stable Xbox firmware channel. In any case it is very easy to connect between platforms; from the Xbox dashboard simply navigate to the Party & Chat section, choose “Try Discord Voice on Xbox” and connect from the service app by scanning the QR code shown.
Microsoft has not yet confirmed whether full Discord integration will arrive in the future, including text chats, but for the moment the focus is entirely on voice chats. In a few weeks, the service should be available for all Xbox users.
