Last month we saw the announcement of The Last of Us Part Iremake of the timeless survival of Naughty Dog. The first chapter is about to land on PlayStation 5 where it will be able to make the most of the new generation hardware. To reveal the peculiarities of this remake, the developers of Naughty Dog have created an interesting trailer ‘behind the scenes’ containing unreleased gameplay clips and some footage taken from the first builds of the game.

Neil Druckmanncreative director and writer of The Last of Us, talks about the incredible work his team has done in reviving Joel and Ellie’s acclaimed adventure – remember that the original game debuted on PlayStation 3 in 2013. The idea behind it of the remake is to take advantage of the latest technologies to get closer “to the original vision of the game”.


The game director also spoke Matthew Gallant and the creative director Shaun Escayg, which confirm what Druckmann stated. The hardware of PlayStation 5 allows developers to give more depth to the game world, being able to rely on a better physics engineon faster transitions between gameplay and cutscene and on smoother, more intuitive and realistic animations. These and other improvements are present in The Last of Us Part I, where we also find an enhanced AI for the behavior of allied and enemy NPCs.

From a graphic point of view, on PlayStation 5 the remake will offer two different visual modes, one for playback in 4K (native) at 30 FPS and another for dynamic 4K ei 60 FPS. All the features of the DualSense controller are now supported, from haptic feedback to adaptive triggers, as well as3D audio. Other technical innovations concern the settings dedicated toaccessibilitywith over 60 options that ensure maximum inclusiveness for all players.

As stated in the post published on the PlayStation Blog, The Last of Us Part I will introduce some features loudly requested by the community. Among these there will be a ‘permadeath’ mode – for the most daring gamers – and even a game mode dedicated to speedrunners. We will also find a brand new range of unlockables with which to customize the appearance of Ellie and Joel.

The Last of Us Part I will be available from 2 September on PlayStation 5. The remake will also arrive on PCbut Sony has not yet revealed the release date for Windows users.
