The Swiss manufacturer Thömus he’s sure his new full-suspension e-mountain bike is the lightest in the world. This is thanks to a series of tricks and choices that bring the weight in certain configurations to only 14.6 kg.

A choice that goes against the trend of Thömus, in a market that often in search of greater performance sacrifices weight. For the Lightrider E Ultimate we therefore started from a carbon frame, which at first glance might almost look like that of a muscle mountain bike. This is because both the electric motor and the battery are sized for a fluid and not too intrusive pedaling aid, and with a weight that does not compromise the handling of the bike.

The electrical part is based on the engine BikeDrive Air by Maxonlight and extremely compact, capable of delivering a couple of 30 Nm, 40 Nm peak, supported by batteries of different sizes, depending on the configuration: 250 Wh, 360 Wh or 426 Wh. Thömus and Maxon jointly developed the Lightrider E Ultimate starting in 2021, precisely to achieve an e-bike that looked like a muscle.

As a fork you can choose between Marzocchi, Fox or DT Swiss, with excursions ranging from 120 mm to 140 mm. As a shock absorber instead we find a DT Swiss R535 ONE that ensures up to 140 mm.

For the gearbox the company has chosen Shimano, with a 12-speed XT, the same brand that we also find for other components, such as the XT Trail pedals. On the manufacturer’s website you can consult the configuratorwhere the Lightrider E Ultimate is available from size XS to XL, with a price starting from 6,290 Swiss francs.
