The well-known Taiwanese overclocker TSAIK brought a sample of AMD Threadripper PRO 5995WX at 5.15 GHzbeating the previous record of points in the multi-core test of Cinebench R23. With the help of liquid nitrogen and an MSI WS WRX80 motherboard, the enthusiast has largely overcome the barrier of 100.000 points.
The result was achieved thanks to the aforementioned motherboard, the MSI WS WRX80which adds a fundamental feature: the overclock support. The Threadripper PRO processors, in fact, are sold with multiplier locked, which prevents any manipulation of the parameters imposed by the manufacturer. However, MSI’s new motherboard offers a solution to bypass the block and push the frequency bar higher.
The Threadripper PRO 5995WX has a configuration that provides 64 cores and 128 threads with a base clock of 2.7 GHz and maximum boost clock of 4.5 GHz all accompanied by 288 MB of cache memory (256 MB L3 + 32 MB L2). The CPU has been paired with 128GB of Corsair CL14 DDR4-3200 RAM. Naturally, LN2, or liquid nitrogen, took care of the cooling of the processor.
With the help of liquid nitrogen to keep temperatures under control, TSAIK managed to bring the 5995WX to 5.15 GHz on all 64 cores. This is an increase of about 14% compared to the maximum boost frequency, which however refers to the peak clock that a single core can reach under standard conditions.
This all resulted in a score in the multi-core test of 116.142about 15% higher than the previous record held by a 3990X which scored 105,170 pointsin that case overclocked to 5.25 GHz. In this way, TSAIK and its Threadripper earned the top spot in the ranking of HWBot.
