Through the official blog, Meta announced BlenderBot 3, a chatbot that users can chat with freely and which, in the intentions of the company, should offer interactions that are as natural as possible. The feedback given by people, as well as the experience gained chat after chat, will help BlenderBot 3 improve over time by exploiting a series of ad hoc artificial intelligence algorithms.
The bot will be able to search the internet and learn more information over time, so as to give more precise and rapid answers as users interact with them. The goal is to limit if not completely eliminate the problems typical of these software that often give answers out of context and, when they try to learn from people, offer results that can appear rude or even offensive. This is why BlenderBot 3 constantly asks for feedback with respect to its answers: it is possible to like or dislike what he writes in chat and, if we do not like the answer, also articulate what we did not like in a specific text field.
To get started and give some basic “knowledge” to BlenderBot 3, Meta educated him using over 20,000 conversations on 1,000 different, specially chosen topics“from a selection of healthy recipes to where to find child-friendly services in the city“. Meta is satisfied with the first tests with significant improvements compared to the previous version of the software: in particular, they explain on the blog, BlenderBot 3 responds with incorrect information 47% less of the time and users find it offensive or inappropriate” only ” in 0.16% of cases.
We would have been very curious to try it but for the moment the demo of the new Meta chatbot is only available in the United States. There remains the curiosity for a project which, as always in these cases, could potentially lead to useful applications but at the same time raises a good number of questions. Meta states that the model through which it was built and the data collected will be shared with scholars in this field, so the initiative should at least be useful to those who design similar solutions but probably do not have the same resources available as the parent company of Facebook.
