The Japanese manufacturer has recently presented two new wide-angle wide-aperture lenses. The first one we write about is the Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art which comes after the presentation, in June, of the 16-28mm f / 2.8. According to the company this model is meant for astrophotography and for whom “pursues the highest optical performance and rich expressiveness”.

In particular Sigma specifies that this model offers optical performance extraordinary and unlimited potential for creativity ultra wide angle but still having compact dimensions so as to be easily transportable. Together with the 20mm, the new 24mm F1.4 was also presented, which we wrote about in another news item.

The technical characteristics of the Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art

The new goal The manufacturer uses an optical design that includes 17 elements divided into 15 groups that also include two Super-Low Dispersion (SLD) lenses and three aspherical elements. For the latter, two have a structure a “double-sided” able to improve overall optical performance and features the largest lens of its type in the history of Sigma. To further improve the quality there is also the coating Nano Porous Coating plus a coating that resists grease and water.

The target Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art then provides a diaphragm formed by 11 blades which has a maximum opening of f / 1.4 and minimum of f / 16. The minimum focusing distance is 23cm while the viewing angle is 94.5 °. For autofocus there is a stepping motor that fully supports the features present in Sony cameras (Eye-AF, Face-AF, etc.). The adjustment ring can be of type clicked or declicked according to the user’s needs thanks to a special selector.

The body of the Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art is made of aluminum and composite materials. Thinking about astrophotography there is also a system for attaching heaters that can avoid condensation when shooting outdoors. At the front it is possible to use 82 mm filters. The dimensions are equal to 87.8 x 111.2 mm or 87.8 x 113.2 mm, respectively for L-mount and Sony E, while the weight settles on 635 grams or 630 grams. The availability of the new Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art is given for the end of August 2022 at a price of 899 dollars (In the USA).
