In Arlo product family we find a series of smart devices for video surveillance that are characterized, for the most part, by being powered by battery and not by cable connected to the mains power supply. A technical choice of this type considerably expands the possibility of installing these cameras in the most diverse environments: the only requirement is to have adequate coverage with a WiFi network signal, so as to be able to transmit the signal, together with a simple accessibility required when the batteries need to be recharged.

In the range of products of the American company we then find a series, that Go, which sees video cameras that not only because of the integrated battery do not require power supply but they can also be installed in environments where coverage with an adequate WiFi network signal cannot be guaranteed. In fact, inside there is a place SIM cardcapable of sending video and images captured by the camera via 4G network so that they can be consulted.

It is clear that such a solution allows you to monitor particular environmentsespecially those outside: think for example of a house that does not have a permanent web connection, or of a shed on the property that is too far away to be able to connect to the home WiFi.

The external appearance of Arlo Go 2the latest addition to the family for a few weeks also on sale in the Italian market, mirroring that of the other video cameras of the Arlo family, with the main difference being the longer length: this made it possible to have the necessary space for the equipment of data transmission and not to compromise with the battery capacity. The structure allows the use of Arlo Go 2 outdoors, even with installations that do not protect it from the elements: The wall mounting system with screws makes it easy to install as well as to remove the camera so that its battery can be easily recharged.

It fits inside the camera a slot for a Micro-SD memory card, which can be used to save videos locally as well as via the cloud. The battery has an indicated capacity of 13,000mAh, higher than that of other Arlo cameras without data connectivity via SIM.

The Arlo Go 2 camera compartment has a Full HD resolutiona step up from the 720p adopted in Arlo Go, with viewing angle of 130 degreesnight vision support, built-in siren and the ability to transmit and receive audio signals in full duplex. Arlo Go 2 also integrates a GPSso that its position can always be kept monitored and allows you to connect to both 4G and WiFi networks depending on where it is installed.

Arlo Go 2 configuration is done very quickly and intuitively directly from the Arlo Secure APP; once recognized by our smartphone and configured ready for use, possibly inserted into a group of other Arlo cameras present in our home environment so that it is possible to monitor the operation of all from a single screen.

The setup options panel allows you to configure some of the operating parameters, mirroring what is accessible with other Arlo cameras. The item that differs in this case is that of the connection, for which the type of connection between data network via SIM and WiFi is reported.

From the APP it is possible not only to check the recordings of specific events, but also to use the video camera for a real-time view. The image can be enlarged through the classic interaction with a touch screen, it is possible to force the activation of the lighting LED and through the microphone and loudspeaker integrated into the device listen to the audio of the environment in which the camera installed as well as provide the possibility to speak.

Arlo integrates its video surveillance solutions with the Arlo Secure service, thanks to which you can store your video recordings in the cloud. The Secure plan supports a maximum video resolution of 2K and saves data for up to 30 days while the plan Secure Plus extends the resolution up to 4K as a maximum and allows videos to be made available for up to 60 days. The Secure plan costs 2.99 per month for a single camera and 9.99 per month for an unlimited number of cameras; the Secure Plus one has a monthly cost of 14.99 for an unlimited number of connected cameras.

We installed Arlo Go 2 outside our office, linking it to the internal Arlo Secure account that manages other cameras of this family located in the various rooms of the office. The behavior of the camera has always been without problems: once the configuration is complete, the video transmission occurred without problems, as if we had dealt with one of the other Arlo cameras connected under a WiFi network.

Arlo Go 2 positioning is very easy: the wall fixing bracket is anchored to the wall through 3 plugs supplied and is connected to the camera through a threaded pin, which in turn ends in a ball joint with which the camera can be positioned in the viewing angle favorite. Operating autonomy with battery is greatly affected by the quality of the network coverage of the telephone company, but more of this on hot summer days than when the camera is exposed to the sun. In fact, we recorded a more marked decrease in autonomy in those daytime hours during which the video camera, for the chosen position, was directly and continuously hit by the sun’s rays.

By switching to a coverage with a WiFi network signal, the impact on the batteries decreases, increasing the overall autonomy. Charging is done through a magnetic cable that hooks onto the bottom of the camera: it is therefore possible to charge everything even without removing Arlo Go 2, simply by using an external battery pack.

Arlo Go 2 is offered at a price of 329.00 including VAT, without the combination of a data SIM which must therefore be integrated by the user according to specific needs. It is a product that completes a set of surveillance cameras from the Arlo family by monitoring areas that cannot be covered by traditional WiFi cameras. At the same time it can also be used to manage, individually, the monitoring of very particular contexts, even if only for a short period of time using a semi-permanent installation.
