Nothing Phone (1): teardown and endurance test. But how many LEDs does it have?

Also for Nothing Phone (1) comes the time of the teardown: this time Zack “JerryRigEverything” Nelson took care of completely dismantling the device. In recent days, the US YouTuber has even published a triptych of videos on the smartphone of Carl Pei’s new company: the classic resistance tests, precisely the teardown and even a “special” in which all the LEDs on the back count one by one , to have a more precise number than the classic “over 900” used in the official promotional material.

But let’s go in order: the teardown. The smartphone is dismantled in a traditional way – removing the glass back cover with a little heat and a lot of attention – and then proceeds by layers. The particular design, however, creates some minor complications and additional quirks. Specifically, there is a good number of covers and protections (for example for the speaker and the ear capsule, but not only) only held in place with a little adhesive. Fortunately, the battery is quite easy to remove, thanks to a very easy to use tab and a not too aggressive adhesive. The source has decided not to remove the screen – or rather, separate it from the supporting body – because it says it would completely “kill” the device.

As for the endurance tests, very briefly, there is nothing particularly significant to report. Nothing Phone (1) survives by reporting the typical damage of each product in this category, and the bend test it produces some bending too much (as well as decidedly sinister noises, however, attributable to the battery adhesive) but the functionality of the device remains intact.
