Banshee is Dodge’s electric muscle car, even with the exhaust

In the North American market Dodge is a brand that has always been associated with the concept of “muscle car“, that is, of those cars typically proposed in the USA that are not sporty in the traditional sense of the term as regards design and construction, but can boast an engine of superabundant power under the body.

Dodge has officially shown its own new concept car, model Charger Daytona SRT “Banshee”, which for the first time will be equipped with a fully electric power supply. At the same time, the American company has provided only a few technical details on this car: we know that it will use the Dodge platform at 800V with traction on all 4 wheels, indicated by the name of Banshee.

However, 3 technical elements are indicated that characterize this electric concept car and which presumably Dodge also wants to transfer to the version destined for production. The first is R-Wing, a front profile that improves the car’s aerodynamics while maintaining the design style typical of Dodge cars. The second is the eRupt transmission, a multi-speed electromechanical solution designed to provide distinct shift points, rather than smooth transitions from one gear to another. With this approach, Dodge wants to provide the driver with the same feeling as the gear changes in a petrol car, combining this with an additional boost of power through the “to-pass” button, which in this way acts as a sort of overboost.

But most of all it is the third feature that is surprising: let’s talk about the Fratzonic Chambered exhaust, which obviously has nothing to do with that of a heat engine but which in this case was installed more for an aesthetic purpose. In combination with the exhaust we will find an audio system that will reproduce the sound of the car typical of a thermal engine, with a sound volume that can reach, according to what the company has declared, a peak of 126dB which is comparable to that of the Dodge Hellcat model.

The presence of an exhaust system and some kind of traction simulator is definitely an original approach from a company like Dodge, which in this way marries the modernity of electric engines while maintaining contact with the classic world of American muscle cars. We will see how the technologies implemented in this concept will transfer to the final model, expected to go on sale starting in 2024.
