It will hit the market in a few weeks the 2022-2023 line of Panasonic televisions, officially presented in Italy in recent weeks and which will offer the public two interesting novelties. The first use of the new OLED EX panels manufactured by LG Display, with the particularity of using deuterium among the constituent elements and the promise of greater efficiency. The second is the use of a heatsink on almost all TV models (not for those with a 42-inch diagonal) which, however, varies in characteristics depending on the series on which it is installed.

It will consist of 4 series: LZ2000, LZ1500, LZ1000 and LZ980. We have listed them in order of market positioning from the top-of-the-range to the entry-level series, which differ primarily in peak luminance. LZ2000 and LZ1500 are credited with 1000 candelas per square meter of peak, LZ1000 stops at just 900 candelas per square meter while the new LZ980 input series reaches 800 candelas per square meter. As for the dimensions: LZ2000 available in sizes 77, 65 and 55, LZ1500 offers solutions of 65, 55, 48 and 42, the LZ1000 series in diagonals of 65 and 55 and finally the LZ980 series offers models of 65, 55 , 48 and 42.

As for the LZ2000 evenings, it is interesting to report the presence of a full-band speaker array in line than taking advantage of technology beamforming it allows to precisely direct the acoustic emission in order both to simulate a diffusion system with several speakers with three-dimensional rendering of the sound, and to increase the volume in a localized manner in some points chosen by the user. The number of speakers varies depending on the size of the TV: 14 for the 55-inch model, 16 for the 65-inch model, and 18 for the 77-inch model.

It should also be emphasized the presence, for all, of the functionalitiesGame Control Board and Game Mode Extreme designed specifically for gamers. With Game Control Board you will have a dedicated overlay interface that brings together all the relevant and useful information and settings for game sessions in such a way that the user can recall them without having to leave the game. Game Mode Extreme, on the other hand, optimizes image quality and performance, thanks also to the support of the standard HDMI 2.1 with HFR, 120Hz VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium. More generally, the new Panasonic TVs will support Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10 + Adaptive and Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode technologies.
During the official presentation we had the opportunity, albeit briefly and in a non-extensive way, to lead some preliminary measures on pre-production versions of some of the new Panasonic TVs, most notably the 55-inch models of the LZ2000, LZ1500 and LZ980 series. For the latter series we were also able to touch the 42-inch model firsthand.

The feedback was quite positive – obviously with the limits of the case in conducting some tests on the fly without the adequate degree of in-depth – and allowed us to record highly respectable luminance levels in HDR mode with the 55-inch models of the LZ2000 and LZ1500 series. , touching and exceeding 1000 candelas per square meter with the Professional 1 profile on both TVs.

The measurements on the chromatic front for both models are also very valid, with a measured gamut triangle that truly reaches 100% (we are talking about a few tenths percentages) of the DCI-P3 color space.

The 48-inch and 42-inch models of the LX980 series, on the other hand, show lower luminance levels (again in HDR): the first is close to 700 candelas per square meter, and the second is just over 450 candelas per square meter. The gamut is always wide and very close to the DCI-P3 color space, albeit slightly lower than that of the models mentioned above (we are talking about 98.5% against 99.5% -99.8%, just to be picky).
From this first contact with Panasonic’s 2022 TV range we can identify a first confirmation of the valid work that the Japanese brand is able to do on OLED panels. We are very curious to put to the test in a more exhaustive way some of the models of the new family, the top of the range, but also the small 42 inch, which for many could also be the alternative to a PC monitor, perhaps for those who care HDR video production
