YouTube Shorts managed to quickly gain popularity despite the very strong competition from TikTok, from which it was clearly inspired, but now the short video app doesn’t have enough and has decided to ‘copy’ another idea from the Chinese competitor, namely the insertion of the watermark on the videos that will be downloaded.
You will surely have watched short videos on YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels, noting in some cases that the creators have simply reloaded their content from TikTok. This is easily noticed, as the watermark the TikTok applies to any video downloaded from the app is clearly visible, showing the platform’s logo and the creator’s username.
Now YouTube Shorts will also adopt the same solution, as was recently announced on the YouTube support page (in SOURCE).
The change was made to let people know tousers that the content shared across multiple platforms can be found in the original version on YouTube Shorts.
If you’re a creator used to downloading your own content from YouTube Studio to share on other platforms, you’ll soon find a watermark added to your videos. At the moment, it is not entirely clear what its appearance will be but it is safe to assume that it will be a slightly animated version of the Shorts logo, just like it does with the TikTok watermark.
