The photo is the result of more shots taken by the Near-Infrared Camera, equipped with three infrared filters. To allow the human eye to visualize the image, the light was mapped onto the visible spectrum: “longer wavelengths appear redder, shorter ones appear blue“explains NASA. And it wasn’t easy to get such a sharp overall picture due to the rapid rotation of the planet.

Every point in the photo is incredible, give it to you auroras at the poles at mistsup to Great Red Spot which in the image appears white because the clouds that cover it reflect sunlight. To highlight all these individual aspects, filters mapped to red (aurora), yellow and green (haze), blue (the cloud surrounding the planet) were used.

The brightness indicates the high altitude – explains the scientist Heidi Hammel – therefore the Great Red Spot has high altitude mists, as well as the equatorial region. The many bright white spots and streaks are likely high-altitude clouds of condensed convective storms.
