Halo Infinite: local co-op canceled, launch postponed for Season 3. Forge to November

In 2017, 343 Industries had promised Halo fans that all future installments of the series would have the split-screen multiplayer, a feature that has been around since the days of Combat Evolved – except for the PC version of CE Anniversary. Well, this tradition doomed to die: the developers of Halo Infinite announce the cancellation of local multiplayer modea feature originally included in the development roadmap.

Halo forgoes split-screen multiplayer: online co-op still safe

In the latest video-diary dedicated to the Halo Infinite community, the developers of 343 Industries talked about the news coming on the last chapter starring Master Chief. In summary, the creative director Joseph Staten reveals that his team has decided to renounce the implementation of the local cooperative mode in order to focus its resources on functions and features that, apparently, require more attention.

As Infinite players will know, another 343i ‘grain’ represented by the Seasons, which is the seasonal updates that should bring new content for Halo competitive multiplayer. Staten therefore justified the cancellation of the local co-op by talking about the need for improve the management of the Seasons and of create new gaming experiences for Infinite users. In this regard, however, there is another bad news.

The release of Season 3 has been postponedas he states Sean Barron of 343i in the aforementioned video. Barron argues that releasing the third season in 2022 would have “a serious negative impact” on all of 2023. According to the newly updated roadmap, Season 3 will be available from March 7 to June 27, 2023. On the other hand, 343 Industries will release a major update next time November 8“the biggest and most robust update” since the launch of Infinite.

This update will introduce, after an exhausting wait, the beta of Halo Forge. In addition, players will be able to access the preliminary version of the online co-op campaign which, unlike the ‘offline’ counterpart, still present in the roadmap drawn up by 343i.
