Like all major car manufacturers, too BMW has decided to move towards vehicles with a lower environmental impact. Häcker himself (who drives an M4 and has other historic models in his garage) answered a few questions inside the online magazine of the company so as to understand what to expect in the near future.

Just in August 2022 Häcker he had already spoken of the theme ofelectrification of the M vehicle range to mark the 50th anniversary of the brand. In the’interview the executive recalls that the company already builds electric models with i4 M50, iX M60 And i7 M70 (from next year). However, this will only be the beginning and development will be increasingly oriented on this issue.

Häcker added that it will start with the mild hybrid and plug-in but in the future there will be room for electric cars of the line BMW M. The manager then recalled that the brand it has gone through several changes. For example, from naturally aspirated to turbo engines and from rear-wheel drive to xDrive. In particular, the dynamics of the vehicle will be at the center of development.

Obviously, from words to deeds, it will be necessary to see what the German manufacturer will be able to do in this regard, considering the widespread skepticism when it comes to high-performance solutions or solutions devoted to driving pleasure.

Regarding the new electric car BMW M during development, Häcker said he was impressed with acceleration (a very common situation when testing an electric car), but also with cornering dynamics and control. The choice is then to use an electric motor per wheel, thus exploiting the four-wheel drive.

The four motors work independently and should allow a precise dynamics in response to the user’s needs thanks to a refined algorithm management (or at least that’s the plan). There is also talk of batteries: their technology and management will be more advanced than current models. This is because it will be necessary to manage the absorption peaks of the motors but also the energy recovery. After all, what we see now is the second generation of prototype electric vehicles (based on i4 M50) with the development of the first generation which lasted almost five years.
One of the objectives is that these BMW M electric they can also be used on the track without regretting the internal combustion versions. But not only. Häcker hopes to be able to take these solutions to become competitive in endurance races such as the Nürburgring 24 Hours or Le Mans.
