However, the most important announcement of the event was the one dedicated to the first narrative expansion of the game: it is entitled Phantom Liberty and will inaugurate a new chapter in the story of V. Edgerunners: the game receives an update inspired by the anime
CD Projekt RED livestream opens with a presentation dedicated to Edgerunners. The anime is now in the pipeline on Netflix, where I will debut the next one September 13 with i 10 episodes of the first season. The series, produced by the renowned animation studio Trigger, sees the protagonist David Martinez, a ‘street kid’ who aspires to become an Edgerunner and make a name for himself in Night City. Scenes from the anime resume the iconic locations seen in the video game to which inspired, as well as proposes the same weapons wielded by V.
The story of Cyberpunk: Canonical Edgerunners, the developers assure. Watching the anime does not require game completion, although CD Projekt RED claims that Cyberpunk 2077 veterans “they will feel at home” watching the animated series.
To promote the launch of Edgerunners, the Polish team released a new update for Cyberpunk 2077. The update, available from todaybrings with it game content inspired by the animated series of Studio Trigger, but also some new features loudly requested by the community, such as the transmogrification system – the so-called transmog.
The protagonist of the game gets the same jacket worn by David in Edgerunners, as well as weapons and vehicles extrapolated from the anime. Before accessing these items, V will witness a sort of flashback that will show an important scene from the animated series.
The most important news is precisely the Wardrobewhich introduces the transmog system for the full customization of the appearance of V. Each item obtained can therefore become an item of clothing for our or our protagonist: after transmogrification, the ‘armor’ will change appearance, but will keep their characteristics and any bonuses. In addition, you can now change V’s face by visiting one of the ripper doc of Night City, where we will also find a range of unusual hairstyles for our alter ego.
With the update comes the introduction of Roach Roacea minigame which, curiously, sees the protagonist Rutilia, the faithful steed of Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt). The arcade-style minigame presents itself as a fun pastime that invites Cyberpunk 2077 players to take a break from the frenetic shooting of Night City – and visit the most iconic locations of The Witcher series. Roach Race also arrives on mobile devices (Android and iOS): the free app and will not contain microtransactions.
Phantom Liberty the first expansion of Cyberpunk 2077
From Night City Wire comes a long-awaited announcement: that of Cyberpunk 2077’s first narrative expansion. After the promises made by the software house, Phantom Liberty finally presents itself to the public with a short, and spectacular, teaser trailer.
As you can already glimpse from the presentation film, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will add new characters to the game’s charismatic cast and allow the citizens of Night City to visit new locations and unexplored areas of the most famous districts. The expansion will be available in the course of 2023 and, importantly, it will come exclusively on PC and next-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S). CD Projekt further stated that new corrective patches are on the way on consoles – of ‘old’ and latest generation – and on PC.
