The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to BOTW has a release date

The last digital event of the format has just ended Nintendo Direct, during which we had the opportunity to see most of the games coming to Switch in action. Great space was dedicated to Japanese productions, with franchises such as Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Kirby, Final Fantasy and, of course, Mario. However, the most important announcement was the one that closed the presentation, which is the reveal of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

We not only get the official title of the sequel to the acclaimed Breath of the Wild, but also a new (short) trailer and, finally, the exit date on Nintendo Switch.

Tears of the Kingdom will arrive on Switch on May 12, 2023

Until a few minutes ago, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did not yet have a name, nor a well-defined launch date. Thanks to today’s presentation, eagerly awaited fans can finally take a closer look at Tears of the Kingdom and circle the release date on their calendars: May 12, 2023. The new open world RPG – originally announced in 2019 – is coming exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

As for the trailer, the footage shown at Direct lasts just over a minute and a half and it doesn’t show anything that hasn’t been seen before, except for a couple of game mechanics – like the ability to activate a sort of hoist and to use a special aircraft to glide to the mainland. We remember, in fact, that in Tears of the Kingdom “[…] Link’s adventure will unfold even in the skies above the vast lands of Hyrule“.

That’s all we know after today’s Nintendo Direct. The event was particularly important for Switch users: over the next few months they will arrive dozens of new titlesdedicated to fans of action games, jRPGs, management and much more.

Among the protagonists of the digital event we mention the new Pikmin 4, presented by Shigeru Miyamoto himself. The dad of Mario, Donkey Kong and many other Nintendo mascots showed the first images of the fourth chapter of Pikmin, without to reveal a trailer. More information will come in 2023prior to the game’s launch on Switch.
