The purposes among the space agencies for this agreement are manifold. From the point of view NASA means having a backup option in case Crew Dragon cannot be launched (and Boeing Starliner is not yet ready and validated) as well as maintaining good relations with a key partner for the ISS. From the point of view of Roscosmos you have access to US launch capabilities with the new capsules providing useful information for future developments (and still maintain good relations in terms of coexistence on the station).

The two cosmonauts are on board Sergey Prokopyev And Dmitri Petelin while the US astronaut is Frank Rubio, as previously announced. Thanks to the ability to launch and the management of orbits, the arrival at the International Space Station it happened in about three hours, although in the future it could go down to an hour and a half.

The docking happened successfully at 19:06 (Italian time) and in about an hour the hatch should be opened to allow the crew currently on board the ISS and to the one just arrived to say goodbye. Currently the commander is still Oleg Artemyev (Expedition 67) with colleagues Denis Matveev and Sergey Korsakov. There are also NASA astronauts Bob Hines, Kjell Lindgren and Jessica Watkins and finally Samantha Cristoforetti (ESA), who will soon become commander.

The mission of Sergey Prokopyev, Dmitri Petelin And Frank Rubio it will last six months and will always return with the same space capsule. The coexistence of the current crew (between those already present and the new arrivals) will last until 29 September when the other Soyuz spacecraft will return to Earth with Oleg Artemyev, Denis Matveev and Sergey Korsakov on board. As written above, there will be the launch of Crew-5 aboard the Crew Dragon Endurance spacecraft (not before October 3rd). Here will be cosmonaut Anna Kikina who will be the first cosmonaut to fly aboard a SpaceX spacecraft.
