The example, which is real by the way, was also put into practice for celectric charging columns in some Lombard municipalities, or to see from the site of other municipalities i free places in the emergency room, the risk of avalanches in the mountains or bad weather warnings. “There are companies and startups – says Verga – they are working on concrete cases of use for mobility, tourism, personal services, safety“.

The data space of E015

The work done by E015 is not the only one of its kind, but it was one of the first, so much so that the Lombardy Region is considered a pioneer in Europe for this approach to sharing information through Api in the data space. The Ministry of Tourism in 2021 made an agreement to be able to reuse this model nationally. It is one of the themes of the conference organized by Cefriel on October 4th in Milan to celebrate this decade.

But there is more. After the birth of E015, the European project Gaia-X was born in a completely autonomous way, conceived as a European cloud, that is the response of France and Germany to the dominance of Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Alibaba. Gaia-X also has a number of functions related to data sharing and reuse. However, the approach compared to E015 is not only very different but it is also complementary. “E015 – says Verga – started in a way more focused on the problem of regulation of data exchange and favoring its reuse and matching demand and supply of data. Instead Gaia-X a problem arose much further upstream: analyze the entire supply chain. So, where are the servers, how are they made, security, up to the material exchange of information “.

A unique service in Europe

The success of E015 is measured with a series of quantitative indicators that indicate the quality of the project: Since inception, more than 180 APIs have been published and more than 120 use cases have been created for the end userthere are more than 510 continuous data exchange pairs (between public and private entities or mix) still active and in operation. Does not exist no other comparable service in Europe and probably to the world.

E015 – says Verga – was born at the beginning of the 1910s when the sector associations of the Lombardy area began to ask: to prepare for the Expo, what aspects of digital can we use to help businesses? What are their needs? The answer is that we needed ways to exchange data. The model born on paper was first tested with transport companies: Sea, Trenitalia, Ferrovie Nord. One of the pilot projects was in Cadorna, where information on Malpensa flights could be viewed. The value wasn’t in the one-to-one exchange, between the airport and the Malpensa Express station, but the fact that those same data were reusable by anyone who needed it with a very low effort, that is, by simply integrating the call to an Api present on our marketplace, on our sharing space. It all started from there“.
