AAWireless is possibly at the moment the best (in terms of quality / price) solution to have Android Auto Wireless on a wide range of vehicles, in the simplest way possible. And it’s also responsible for my own personal flashback with Android Auto itself.
At the beginning of 2021 I published on our YouTube channel a video titled “what torture Android Auto”, which I have shown above. In it I complained about what were the (chronic) problems that an Android Auto user could run into, and ever since almost nothing has changed.
Yes, there have been a lot of updates in the meantime, but basically the user experience has remained the same, both graphically and practically. I want to specify it because Google announced last June a new design for Android Auto, which however is struggling to arrive, and net of that, bugs and malfunctions have always been present in all this time.
The bottom line is that Android Auto works, but it does not offer a uniform and consistent experience on different vehicles. Some will complain about something, others about something else, but the bottom line is that everyone (or almost everyone) will sooner or later experience something that doesn’t work or that doesn’t behave optimally.
I’m talking about audio playback problems, jamming, assistant errors bordering on frustrating. Various elements, partly also linked to the way of using the software, but in any case of mold rather basic.
Even today, when I want to try to answer a message with slightly longer sentences, I never know if it will be okay at the first one or if I will have to try again until exhaustion. “Do you want to send the message or edit it?“-” MODIFY IT “-“I didn’t understand, do you want to send the message or edit it?“-” MODIFY! “(Yes, if you say” modify “instead of” modify it “the assistant understands, otherwise more no than yes – Editor’s note)
And just to clarify, I don’t think an infotainment system like Android Auto has to do who knows what.
Navigation, music, calls and messages: these are the four fundamental points, in my view. And the Google system also takes them home, but as already pointed out it does so in ways that are not always the desirable ones, especially if we think that driving would take as few distractions as possible, not potential annoyances that can appear / disappear / at each update. reappear.
Other examples? If someone sends you a link of a position on Google Maps there is no way to open it from Android Auto, you have to take your phone and click on it, and while Maps is running on the vehicle screen you cannot use it on a smartphone. These are small shortcomings that, however, in a system that should now be more than mature, annoy a little.
That said, however, compared to virtually 99% of the proprietary infotainment systems of the various car maker, Android Auto is better, however.
Better in terms of flexibility, replicating many apps on your smartphone, and also in terms of quality, because in any case navigation on Maps / Waze is easily light years ahead of all possible alternatives.
Once you get used to using it even for small everyday commutes, it becomes easy not wanting to do without it anymore, because in any case the music you were listening to starts immediately without the typical interruptions of the radio, because in this way you are ready to answer a call by pressing a simple button on the steering wheel, because if there is a traffic jam in the road that you usually take you will avoid taking it by saving precious time. There’s always a good reason to use Android Auto, compared to … nothing!
Too bad always having to look for the phone in your pocket / bag / backpack and connect it to that dangling cable in the car, which maybe wears out over time.
And then you have the shopping bags, the umbrella, the screaming children, and the departure in this way is only delayed …

You get into the car, start the engine, and after about ten seconds or so (with the cable it is logically immediate), the Android Auto interface starts; like this, without a shot being fired. It doesn’t matter whether the phone is in your pocket, charging on the dashboard, or in the backpack in the trunk, in any case you will have your infotainment system ready, exactly as you would have had it with the cable. And I’ll be honest, it’s the classic example of a benefit that also compensates (part of the) malus. A bit like when you buy a product at a great price, and even if it is not the most perfect device in the world you pass it on, because at that price it is worth everything.
Because Android Auto is basically useful I have already said it enough, and having it always ready, as if it were integrated into the vehicle itself, makes a big difference. So if you really appreciate the benefits, even for those short trips where you might not have used it otherwise. Android Auto still remains the same, with its strengths and weaknesses, but at least it’s practically now always available“forcing” you to use it.
After he avoids you taking a broken road for jobs you didn’t know, after you answer a boring call on the way, instead of a votal at your destination, after you shut up your child with a few songs he likes , you will thank you for using AAWireless.
And then the configuration is simple (it just takes a little patience the first time), immediate operation, and if you were already used to Android Auto the learning curve is close to zero.

Some of you will surely think: and what inconvenience do you want it to be to connect a cable? In theory, none: it is that small gesture that, once you get used to it, you will do mechanically every time you enter the vehicle. But above all if you used to take the car several times a day, perhaps not alone, it is also that small gesture that you will thank you for not having to perform anymore, and you will realize how boring it was only once you have abandoned it.
However, there is also a downside, namely that in this way the phone battery runs out. In my personal experience, however, it is not that we are talking about an excessive battery drain, because in any case the smartphone screen remains off, and in all daily movements, perhaps home-office (you should still have a power supply available), there is no reason. to do without the convenience of wireless.
Different speech for long journeys, where however it takes hours before arrival: in that case the wired solution becomes necessary in order not to arrive at the destination with shortness of breath.
