The giants of the sector, including Panasonic, have to sharpen their weapons to fend off the competition and today’s announcement is clear testimony.

Panasonic Connect Europe today announced the new AK-PLV100GJ 4Kwhich plays on the border between a movie camera and a studio camera. The new product will be available from the first quarter of 2023.

To deliver cinematic images, the new Panasonic AK-PLV100GJ 4K uses a Super 35mm 5.7K MOS sensor and makes available attachment for PL opticsinherited from the VariCam video camera. The idea is to provide a camera body suitable to support productions with all the tools and dedicated connections, but at the same time to be able to take advantage of cinema optics, perhaps those with high aperture to obtain very evident blur and reduced depth of field.

To support production studios increasingly built with an IP-based workflow, the camera compatible with the SMPTE ST 2110 standard. In this way, a simplified connection is obtained to the KAIROS, IT / IP platform (released in May 2020), which offers unlimited control to distribute high quality content on different devices by generating multiple streams.

The entrance and exit SMPTE ST 2110 it will be available directly from the camera head of the AK-PLV100GJ, without connecting to a CCU (Camera Control Unit), so IP-based live production will be possible with just the use of the camera, without requiring a more complex system. It is also possible to exit directly from the 12G-SDI camera head, to simplify the construction of the system that is able to manage a wide range of operations.

The camera head compatible with the various pieces of the Panasonic studio camera chain that mounts standard 2/3 B4 lenses. By replacing this type of camera head with the AK-PLV100GJ it is possible to create cinematic images using CCUs and other modules that are part of the studio chains (such as AK-UCU600 or AK-HCU250).

Panasonic Connect Europe also announced today too AW-UE160W / Kone 4K PTZ camera new generation: the new model is positioned at the top of the Panasonic PTZ range, above the already established AW-UE150 which therefore will scale a step below this new one.

The AW-UE160W / K features newly developed Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) that enables high-speed focusing and can be used to track moving subjects. Other features include 20x optical zoom and hybrid image stabilizer. AW-UE160 is also the first PTZ camera to integrate the SMPTE ST2110 standard, available via a software option.

In addition, the camera offers the possibility of wireless transmission with a 5G mobile router (via USB tethering). The camera has a video return input and a rear tally that can also be illuminated in yellow, essential elements for integrating it with system cameras. In addition, it is equipped with a Crop zoom function that allows you to exit the output with multiple frames of different angles with a single camera and the camera has the possibility to exit in high speed (2X, 100 / 120fps) in Full HD from the SDI / HDMI interfaces.
