Always keeping in mind that technology is only one aspect of cybersecurity. “Making safety means following processes”, says Nencini. The platform developed by Trend Micro is not limited to warning of dangers and repelling attacks, but also verifies what may be the internal and external vulnerabilities of the infrastructure, suggesting where to intervene as a priority. And it does so not only during the initial phase, but continues to perform these checks constantly, also because today the company’s IT ecosystems change rapidly, even several times a day in certain cases. Just as user behaviors change.
Moving on to the present, what are the main threats? “Definitely the ransomware“, Declares Nencini. “Before we saw it mainly in the IT environment, but today we also see it in the OT world, at an industrial level. We are no longer going to block the administration PC, but we are going to block a robot and therefore production“.
The growing integration between IT and OT worlds reaffirms the importance of what was emphasized above, that is, having a vision of the whole ecosystem, without just observing the individual parts separately. IT and OT, today, can no longer be managed as two separate worlds. It should also be noted an important aspect: according to the latest Trend Micro report on cybersecurity, Italy is sixth in the world and first in Europe for ransomware-type attacks. In short, we cannot let our guard down, and it is necessary that safety technologies are then accompanied by the fundamental training of users, which should never be neglected according to Fontana.
