In September last year we wrote about the winners of the photo contest organized by Nikon to promote photography (and of course indirectly also the brand Japanese). It is a historic competition as it has its roots since 1969 and whose popularity led it to have in the last edition 26,000 participants from 150 countries and regions around the world who presented over 65,000 photographs and videos. But now we look beyond, to Nikon Photo Contest 2022-2023.
The Japanese producer has announced that the photographs and videos will be accepted, which will then be evaluated to arrive at the awards ceremony at the end of 2023 (starting from 27 October). A way for photographers from all over the world to make themselves known and to be able to aspire to one of the prizes offered by Nikon. Here is what you need to know in order to participate in this edition.
Nikon Photo Contest 2022-2023: registrations are open
Users will be able to choose whether to participate in the Photo Competition (photograph) or to the Short Film Competition (short films). Within these two categories there will then be sub-categories because photographers can further choose whether to send a single photo or a set of photographs within a story. Also in the short films category you can choose between a longer and a shorter version similar to what we are now used to on social. Registrations will open on 27 October at 6:00 (Italian time) until 13 February 2023 at 5:00 (Italian time).
For the Nikon Photo Contest 2022-2023 is was chosen as the theme for the photographic competition it is the one that is enclosed by the word “beloved” (loved / dear). Users will have to send either a single photograph or two to five images based on the sub-category chosen and will be able to shoot with any type of equipment and therefore not necessarily Nikon.
As for the short film category, it will be necessary to send a video in MOV or MP4 format from 180 “to 300” (short film) or from 20 “to 40” (super short film). The topic chosen for this category is “Next Steps” (next steps) and also in this case there is no constraint on the equipment used. If a language other than English will be used, subtitles will have to be inserted instead if English will be used, subtitles will not be needed.
What will be the prizes of the Nikon Photo Contest 2022-2023? The first prize (one per category, two in total) will include a Nikon Z 9, the flagship camera of the Japanese manufacturer, some lenses compatible with the latter and about 3500 euros in money. For the prize “excellence” (two per category, eight in total) there will be up for grabs Nikon Z 7II and NIKKOR lenses for photographers and Nikon Z 6II, NIKKOR lenses and video accessories for film-makers. The prize of “encouragement” (four per category, sixteen in total) there will be up for grabs Nikon Z fc and NIKKOR lenses for the photography category and Nikon Z 30, NIKKOR lenses and video accessories for film-makers. Audience Award (one per category, two in total) includes Nikon Z 50 with NIKKOR optics for both photographers and film-makers.
