CHARbO (Charging Robot) born in 2021, as a prototype capable of autonomously hooking a charging cable to an electric car. Now Alverithe company that presented it, has unveiled the new generation, optimized and ready for field tests.
While the concept remains similar, in practice there are several relevant innovations. The robot is no longer bound to a sort of mobile column, with the usual cable, but runs on a track positioned next to the parking spaces. Electricity is provided by a point of contact to earth. In this way, a single CHARbO can serve several parking spaces, from one up to 100 meters length of the track.
Customers can also simply park the car with the charging door open, book the session, and as soon as the robot has finished charging the previous customer, will move to activate the next one. Alveri also released an example video:
The weaknesses of CHARbO are mainly two. The first is the need to have a vehicle with charging port on the right side, or possibly on the left side but parked against the hand, which is not always granted. The second the lack of simultaneous refillsalthough, fair to say, CHARbO eliminates the need to have dedicated parking spaces for electric cars, and any seat in the row served by the track can be a charging point.
Field tests in the real environment will take place next year, at selected partner customers, with series production scheduled for 2024.
