Google returns to the farewell to 32-bit apps on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro in favor of exclusive support for code a 64 bit. This is not new, given that the topic had already been gutted immediately after the presentation of the new smartphones, but apparently Big G wanted to confirm the change in an official way underlining the reasons that led her to this choice.
This peculiar configuration is an absolute first in the Android field, and Google justifies its adoption by citing the consequent reduced memory usage, improved performance and security. It is a first time, it was said, and the Pixels represent the first test for a subsequent widespread adoption to all smartphones equipped with the Mountain View operating system.
“Our ecosystem is ready“, says the company, and a great part of the credit goes to the community that has never stopped offering its support even before the support was made mandatory on the apps published on the Play Store in the summer of 2019. Just think that the first steps date back to 8 years ago.
Google specifies that despite the migration to exclusive support for 64-bit apps, 32-bit will continue to be present on Android Go, Android TV and Android Wear. On devices with 32-bit support only, the Californian company will continue to provide 32-bit apps.
