One of the pillars of BMW and the new Neue Klasse platform which will debut on the first production vehicle in 2025. Platform expressly designed for electric cars that will allow the integration of all the latest innovations developed by the German manufacturer. Apparently, we will see a first glimpse of this future at next CES 2023 in Las Vegas.
In fact, during the presentation of the data of the last quarterly, BMW has made it known that the appointment in Las Vegas will bring a new “Vision” concept car based on this platform. Concept that will also recall the principles of the German brand regarding electrification, digitization and circular economy.
BMW hasn’t added much else but the suspicion is that this concept could be an evolution of the BMW i Vision Circular unveiled at the Munich Motor Show 2021 and characterized by the use of recycled and reusable materials.
Speaking of the new Neue Klasse platform, the German carmaker recalls that the new sixth generation batteries presented last September. We are talking about accumulators equipped with cylindrical cells with a diameter of 46 mm and in two different heights.
According to what he had told Frank Weber, responsible for the development of BMW, the new batteries will be able to count on an increase in energy density of 20% compared to today. In addition, the autonomy will improve up to 30% and the charging speed always by 30%. The new platform, we recall, will support an 800 V architecture and, therefore, will allow full of high-power energy. The new cells will be built by BMW with its partners in 6 factories: two in China, two in Europe and two in USMCA (United States – Mexico – Canada).
So, at CES 2023 we will be able to take a first look at BMW’s electric future. According to past rumors, the first model to have the new Neue Klasse platform should be a car from the same segment as the 3 Series.
