ATTENTION: spoilers on the ending of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
These days Marvel movie fans are heading en masse to the cinema to see Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverthe new chapter of the Black Panther saga that will close the fourth phase of this Cinematic Universe on the cinema side (the last title of this phase, in reality, will be the Christmas special of Guardians of the Galaxy coming to Disney + on November 25). The spectators will attend with great emotion this new adventure which is also a must homage to Chadwick Bosemanthe protagonist who passed away in the summer of 2020. While the surviving characters, such as Ramonda, Shuri and Okoye, have to deal with his legacy and his absence, the world of Wakanda carries on his destiny and above all builds, at least in part, the future of the Marvel universe.
Of course, as many expect, too Wakanda Forever will reserve some surprises after the final scenes (but if of course you haven’t seen the movie yet, stop here!). First of all, the first revelation that comes after the credits and is summarized in a single sentence: “Black Panther will return“, We read on the screen to underline the fact that the new Black Panther, which is established in the course of this story, will return to new adventures and will still be central to the development in the next stages of this film series (for now, no Black Panther 3 has been officially announced, but we will probably review the character in the two Avengers scheduled for 2025-26 or earlier in some other title).
Even more significant, however, is the additional scene that we see before the lights come back on in the room: it is not exactly a post-credits scene (so you don’t have to wait until the end of the credits) but rather a mid-credits scene, which therefore ranks among the first animated credits and then the most classic plank of cast and crew. As anticipated by both director Ryan Coogler and executive producer Nate Moore, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever it’s a film that is too emotional and important in terms of remembrance to Boseman to contain the usual post-credits to Marvel that anticipate future films or even contain funny scenes that play down.
Instead he opts for a scene that continues the poignant vein of many other moments in the film: after concluding his fight with Namor, in fact, Shuri leaves Wakanda – it is not known whether temporarily or forever – and he goes to Haiti where he is Nakia, the sweetheart of her brother, a little to close the circle; on an enchanting beach illuminated by a clear sun, the girl decides to leave the painful past behind her and to burn his funeral robeas her mother Ramonda had also suggested.
It is an extremely intense moment, crowned by the arrival of Nakia who introduces Shuri to a baby named Toussaint: it is the same child, however, who says he has a Wakandian name, that is T’Challa. Thus we come to know that the late king had had a son with Nakia but with her he had decided to make him grow away from the hype and not to let him attend his funeral. A scene really full of emotion that perhaps does not tell us anything about the future of Marvel but closes a chapter with great emotion.
