4k video, optimized Dolby Vision or from third-party apps (such as YouTube, Vimeo, Vlc and Plex) is clearly superior to all the equivalent Android TV apps.interpolation made by Dolby Vision practically reconfigures the television and video parameters, with a decidedly superior overall result both from the chromatic point of view and from the typical optical aberrations: effects of bendingdistortion, false contrast, excessive light or dark, fluidity of movement and so on.
The missing apps
Third-party apps, on the other hand, are Apple TV’s greatest opportunity, barely touched yet. The developers of the iOS-iPadOS-macOS ecosystem can create apps that are also compatible with tvOS (i.e. Apple TV) but only a few do. All parts of Apple Arcade are compatible and even some third-party games have an Apple TV version, but we have not yet found the critical mass of apps that make Apple TV an essential platform for developers. Often, some developers have told us, Apple TV is not taken into consideration because it has limited ways to interact and a much smaller user audience than iOS and iPadOS.
Integrated into the Apple ecosystem
If you choose to live in the Apple ecosystem, the integrations for Apple TV are numerous and done very well. They just work. The configuration took a few minutes, as well as docking the two HomePod Minis at home and transforming them into a stereo pair to have a sort of soundbars which takes the place of the TV outlet and has an excellent presence in medium-sized rooms (a living room of 24 square meters). We connected to all the Apple services we use (photos, music, apps already purchased from the same account or “in the family” compatible with Apple TV) in a very simple way but always with two-factor authentication for security.
Apple TV (and HomePod mini) can also be configured remotely with the Casa app, while the function of remote controller, if you don’t have the one supplied with the base at hand, which now has a USB-C socket and no more lightning to be recharged. Finally, we connected the Apple headphones (normal and first generation AirPods Pro) without problem: they just need to be registered with the same iCloud account and they are automatically “seen” by the Apple TV.
