Epson leaves the laser printer market. A brave move to say the least, made as “act of kindness towards the environment”. This type of printers, widely used in offices and companies, ensures low costs combined with precision and speedboth of the process itself and in terms of waiting after printing: with inkjet printers there is a need for the ink to dry, the laser prints are ready immediately.
They have one though downside not recently: they pollute more compared to their inkjet counterparts. So Epson decided that will stop selling laser printers worldwide by 2026 as an act of responsibility, and will concentrate all its resources on cold-process inkjets with piezoelectric head (technology in which Epson has been investing for years). To these the task of supporting companies, offices and professionals to whom the new machines of the WorkForce Enterprise AM series are addressed, offering “a compact and sustainable solution”promises the Japanese company.

The decision to abandon the laser printer market is consistent with our choices, which cannot be linked only to commercial interests, we look towards sustainable innovation. Our activity will be totally focused on cold inkjet technology with piezoelectric head, of which we own. We will thus be able to provide efficient and sustainable printing solutions to partners and companies.
Epson’s decision reinforces a trend that was already evident in the numbers of those analyzing the market. Like IDC, which reports as the The laser printer sector is losing ground to inkjet printers. In Western Europe, an annual growth rate of the latter of 5.1% is expected over the next few years, while the former will drop by 0.4%.
