Cohesity announces DataHawk to protect corporate data, thanks also to the Data Security Alliance

In a press session following its annual conference ReConnect, Cohesity has announced numerous innovations in its portfolio of services ranging from new DataHawka service for defense against cyber attacks, up to the creation of the Data Security Alliance which involves many leading names in the world of security.

Cohesity DataHawk: data security in one offering

DataHawk is a SaaS solution that aims to offer the three main functionalities needed for data protection: the threat protection, by constantly monitoring the attack indicators; there data classification, which allows you to identify the most important data and protect them better; and the cyber vaultingor the creation of digital “safes” that do not allow the modification of data.

DataHawk integrates an engine of ransomware detection and other malware based on machine learning that allows you to constantly monitor the state of the data to detect any anomalies that may indicate an attack in progress. The engine receives constant updates on the latest threats and is extensible through third-party services.

Cohesity has partnered with BigID to allow companies to automatically catalog their data thanks to artificial intelligence algorithms that therefore allow them to identify the most valuable data and protect them in the best possible way, as well as to understand what the impact of an attack is if it manages to have place.

Finally, the cyber vault of DataHawk allows you to create a copy air-gapped some data: this means that the systems on which this copy is kept are disconnected from the rest of the network (either virtual, in the case of the cloud, or physical, in the case of infrastructures on premise), so as to be inaccessible and, therefore, unassailable. In addition to this, the system uses a file system developed by Cohesity itself which only allows adding data, thus preventing modifications and, therefore, the possibility for ransomware to encrypt data and make it unreadable.

It should be specified that the Cohesity solution uses what the company calls “instant recovery”: the data is made available from the location where the backup is located and is in the meantime copied to the original location, so as to avoid the long waiting times that are normally required when a restore is performed.

The service will be available soon for both cloud environments, which are the primary focus, and environments on premise.

Cohesity founds the Data Security Alliance

A novelty both in strategic and technical terms is the foundation of Data Security Alliancewhich includes Cohesity itself and a number of other companies aiming to make their solutions interoperable to allow customers to maintain control and security of their data.

The first members of this alliance are, in addition to Cohesity, BigID, Cisco, CrowdStrike, CyberArk, Mandiant, Okta, PaloAlto Networks, PwC, Securonix, Splunk and Tenable. Further members may be added in the future, also thanks to the fact that Cohesity has made available APIs with which it is possible to integrate other software and services with its platform in a simple way.

The alliance is both technological and commercial and the integration between the various solutions, according to what we were told during the press event, is such that the customer does not have to deal directly with the various components, but only with the solution Cohesity. In other words, those who do not already have a subscription to the security solutions of, for example, Cisco, can purchase it as part of the Cohesity services and then without having to deal with the manual setup of these solutions. There is thus a simplification for both technical and commercial customers.
