On android comes a novelty that will particularly please those who own a smartphone with limited memory (or at the limits of saturation…), or the possibility of archive an application keeping only the data associated with it on your device.
Announced by Google last March, it is a function that is made available with the Play Store update to version 33.4 via Google System Updates (the November news HERE). In practice it is one alternative solution to the more classic uninstallwith which all personal data is lost.
- uninstall: you free up memory by deleting apps and related data from your smartphone
- storage: you free up the memory by deleting only the app from your smartphone. Personal data previously uploaded to the app is saved (archived) on the smartphone, facilitating a possible re-installation of the app
USEFUL IF…
- … you have little space on the smartphone and you want to temporarily “uninstall” an app that is not being used at the moment without losing the configuration data
- … you only use the app at certain times – for example in the summer for holidays, or during the school year
Google has said that an archived app allows you to recover about 60% of the space occupied by it on the Android smartphone.
