When the previous model was presented, the critical opinion was almost unanimous: a camera full of charm and capable of producing splendid images, but penalized by a contrast-detect AF system that was not up to par and by a general “slowness” of operation.
With the new generation, Hasselblad X2D 100C, the Swedish manufacturer aims to correct these weaknesses. Recipe?!? A new sensor first of all, 100 Mpixel, with integrated phase detection focusing and backlighting. And then, greater computing powerbut Hasselblad didn’t stop there: it also introduced three new generation lenses, also dedicated to performance (new stepping AF motors, faster and more precise, and new central shutter capable of synchronizing with any shutter speed).
Before creating false expectations, however, it is good to immediately add that the focus continues to be (at least waiting for the expected firmware update) strictly single shot. A choice that symbolizes what the Hasselblad X2D is all about. The increased performance transforms this medium format mirrorless into an action camera.
The camera body has remained largely unchanged, so much so that at first glance you hardly notice the small (but important) improvements that actually exist: the upper secondary displaythe viewfinder state expanded (and a marvel) e the rear display now tilts.
The list price for the machine body alone is equal to 8699 eurosabout 2700 more than both the previous model and the Fujifilm GFX 100s, but still significantly lower than the average price found online for the Fujifilm GFX 100, which stands at around 9500 Euros.
Camera tested with new lenses XCD 2.5/38V(4199 Euros) e XCD 2.5/55V (also 4199 Euros). For those interested, the third lens of the new V line, the XCD 2.5/90V, costs 4799 Euros.
