After months of announcements and previews, Android 13 has finally been officially launched for the OS Android TV. However, one aspect needs to be clarified immediately: to install the update you will need to wait a little longer since the new version can only be tested on ADT-3 and Android TV emulator in Android Studio.
Waiting for the update to be released, Google has already announced what’s new in Android 13 for TV. Of these, most are dedicated to increasing performance and quality. In fact, the update will introduce new APIs that will help developers deliver better experiences to users across different types of devices. For example, there will be an important intervention on the “AudioManager” API, which will allow to anticipate the support of audio attributes for the active audio device and select the optimal format without starting playback.
Other changes will affect accessibility and input controls. In this regard, the “InputDevice” API will support different keyboard layouts, while game developers can also refer to the keys according to their physical location to support different physical keyboard layouts.
Finally, a new audio description API in the “AccessibilityManager” will allow apps to query the new system-wide audio description preference setting, helping developers automatically deliver audio descriptions that align with user preferences.
Pending the release of the update, you can find more information on what’s new in this version of the operating system Official page on the Android Developers Blog.
