That of the more or less improbable iPhone concepts is a topic that is more alive than ever. The design of the Apple smartphone has never been very courageous, and it is precisely this that drives technicians and engineers to create particular versions of the iPhone: among these we have seen the foldable iPhone recently, and now a iPhone 14 Pro Max with “edge” display with rounded corners.
The concept was accomplished by the user @lipilipsi (account Apple fixes), who defines himself on Twitter as a “hardware technician” specializing in aftermarket Apple device modifications. The brand new version of the smartphone was shown in various images and a short video, and was created replacing the original stainless steel frame and implementing a new display. All other components of the smartphone remain unchanged.
The concept of the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a curved display on the sides
Needless to hide it: the curved display recalls the design implemented on various Android smartphones, in particular the one adopted on Samsung Galaxy smartphones from 2014 onwards. The difference is that competing smartphones are designed in the bud for a display of this type, while the design of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is based on a different concept, preferring simple and linear shapes.
Twitter users themselves have not welcomed the modifications of Apple’s fix to the iPhone: “Fixed? You’ve added ugly curves and a chromatic distortion at the corners”, was the comment of one of the followers of the account. Another user instead underlined that he was happy “that Apple never fell into the curved screen trap”, while among the answers we also read: “Disgusting!”.
In the past, Apple has made other changes to the iPhone, such as implementing an Apple Watch on the back to offer a working display on the back; or by replacing the Lightning port with a USB Type-C, or by inserting a transparent body to always show all the internal components of the iPhone.
