Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2 Gen review: Still a great tablet (that costs less)

We are happy with how Lenovo has decidedly embarked on the path of creating an entire Android tablet lineup with excellent build quality. This also Tab P11 Pro second generation in fact it is excellently made of metal and the choice of construction materials allows it to remain rigid despite being decidedly thin (only 6.8 mm thick). The edges of the display have a suitable thickness with the use of a tablet. The weight is 480 grams, the average for tablets of this type.

This Lenovo tablet is equipped with a processor Mediatek Kompanio 1300T octa core at 6 nanometers with a maximum frequency of 2.6 GHz. We have a Mali G77 MC9 GPU and 8GB of RAM LPPDR4X. The internal memory is fortunately abundant, given that it amounts to 256 GB in UFS 3.1 technology. There is also no 4G / 5G version, but there is still a removable slot to expand the internal memory with a microSD.

We then have Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and the Bluetooth 5.1, as well as a USB-C 3.0 port. There is also GPS for positioning, which is not a given for a tablet without SIM connectivity. Too bad about the absence of a fingerprint reader. You have to rely only on unlocking with the 2D face.

The stereo sound that comes out of the 4 JBL technology speakers is also good. There are few competitors in this sense.

The display is a great 11.2-inch panel with 2.5K resolution of 1536 x 2560 pixels in technology OLEDs And 120Hz refresh rate. Touch sampling for touch response is 360 Hz. Maximum brightness is 600 nits, which is a good value considering the competition in the tablet world. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are also supported. It is in all respects an excellent tablet for multimedia playback.

On the software side we have Android 12 with November 2022 patches. Definitely a good result, considering that last year the tablet had arrived in proportion with a decidedly older version of the software.

The company then promises updates up to Android 14, showing that it has “serious” intentions for this tablet. If the tablet software is at first impact that of a classic large Android device, it is by activating the Operating Mode that the setting changes significantly. It has definitely improved compared to the past and now integrates notifications in a special menu in the system tray at the bottom right. The software now behaves like a desktop operating system, showing open apps in the tray and launching new apps by default in a window.

Among the advanced features we find Entertainment Space which starts by swiping the screen from the home to the left. This interface collects all popular video player apps in one place. This year we also have a function that allows you to use the tablet as an external monitor of a Lenovo notebook, if connected on the same network (the tool is present on all Windows PCs, but it doesn’t seem to work properly).

Overall the software is very fluid and this dual laptop / desktop personality makes it perfect for any type of use.

The battery of this tablet is a full-bodied one 8,000mAh. During normal use, the tablet has low fuel consumption and performs well, probably thanks to the new Mediatek processor. However, we also point out that the consumption in standby seemed to us a little higher than the competitors. Unfortunately, the recharge is not particularly fast, given that it stops at 20W.

There Precision Pen 3 it is certainly an interesting accessory because it will allow you to interact with your tablet in an even more precise way. The pen connects via Bluetooth and recharges by attaching it magnetically to the back of the tablet. It supports multiple levels of pressure but does not detect tilt and therefore may not be good for those who thought of drawing with the pen on this tablet.

Much more interesting in our opinion the keyboard covers.

It is a two part accessory. The rear one hooks magnetically and has two parts that can lift: a smaller one at the top that allows you to protect the pen (if purchased) from bumps that could accidentally release it and maybe lose it. The lower wing, on the other hand, functions as a stand and can be positioned freely. It’s stiff enough to interact with the tablet without accidentally changing the tilt. It can then be held more or less erect as needed.

The second part attaches with magnetic pins and also includes a full keyboard. This QWERTY keyboard is not backlit but is extremely functional, thanks to the sufficiently large and spaced keys. In addition, the surface is hard enough to use the tablet with good comfort even if you are not on a hard surface. The trackpad is also very good, which supports clicks on almost its entire surface.

Just a pity that it is not possible to reverse the scroll direction (which is basically “natural”).

The second generation Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is sold for €499, to which €49 must be added (if you wish) for the Precision Pen 3 and the €119 keyboard cover. The price of the tablet has even dropped by €150, a half-miracle if we think that in recent months even products with unchanged hardware are increasing in price.
