WindTre launches the WiFi Calling function in Italy

The telephone operator has launched in Italy the new feature named Wi-Fi Callingthanks to which it is possible make and receive voice calls even in the absence of mobile signal, provided that there is a WindTre WiFi network nearby. The company was, in fact, the first in Italy to experiment with this technology and to obtain the authorization to start up from the Authorities.

Specifically, the new function allows, in the presence of a WindTre WiFi connection, to call with your smartphone even from places where we would not normally be able to complete the operation, for example buildings with thick walls, warehouses, basements or in other situations in which mobile network reception is frustrated by insurmountable obstacles.

That’s not all, there is another convenience given by the ability to seamlessly switch between cellular and WiFi networks during an ongoing phone call. This last feature is particularly important for professionals and all those who shouldn’t lose important calls for a simple signal drop.

The function WiFi Calling is already available for free for everyoneboth private and business customers of WINDTRE, provided they have a compatible smartphone.

What devices are supported? At the moment the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Xiaomi 12 Pro range. But don’t worry, the feature will gradually be extended to new models and to an increasing number of customers over the next few months.

As specified above, the WiFi call function has no additional costs compared to the conditions of its offer, can be used throughout the country and does not require the installation of any application, nor manual configuration of the mobile device. Here is what WindTre writes about its feature.

Compared to similar services for conveying calls over the Internet, WiFi Calling provides greater functional characteristics, including the possibility of making emergency calls in the absence of mobile radio coverage, as well as a better and more fluid experience for the user, for example in times of making the call.
