The fateful day of the definitive stop of Stadia is approaching and by now the refunds should be well advanced in our country too. We know the final day of business will be January 18, 2023, but for some titles the plug will be pulled early. Destiny 2 was one of the hottest games on Stadia at launch, and it remains one of the service’s best titles as we near its end. Those who hoped to be able to play Destiny 2 until the last day of Stadia’s existence will have to change their minds. As part of Bungie’s latest Destiny 2 Weekly Update, it was confirmed that the game will go offline on Stadia starting January 11, which is a week before the platform shuts down. Bungie thus comments on the decision.
Destiny 2 on Stadia will go offline starting January 11, one week before Stadia shuts down. We hope this will give players who haven’t yet set up Cross Save enough time to do so before January 18th.
This isn’t a huge surprise, as other games also pulled support a bit early. Ubisoft, for example, recently announced that the latest Assassin’s Creed Valhalla update on Stadia would be the last available for the platform. But with Destiny 2, this announcement means players won’t be able to access the game for the last week of Stadia’s life. Destiny 2 players can still carry over their progress to other platforms if they’ve been playing on Stadia by setting up Cross Save, but that process will need to be completed in time, as there’s only a month left before the game closes.
Meanwhile, on other platforms, Destiny 2 is gearing up for its next major update, Lightfall, which is scheduled to launch on February 28, 2023. And just recently, during The Game Awards, we saw the trailer for the next update.
