Last November Audi announced that the original e-tron, 160,000 units sold since 2018, the brand’s first electric, would have a restyling and several improvements, also changing its name to Q8 e-tron.
Today production has started of the new car, in the Brussels plants, where both variants will be assembled, e-tron and e-tron Sportback. As anticipated by Audi, however, it is not just an aesthetic restyling, which was necessary in any case, but also a technical one.

The battery capacity increases, and now it will be able to supply Q8 e-tron up to 582 km range according to the WLTP cycle, which rise to 600 km in the case of the more aerodynamic Sportback. The cells are obviously more modern, and can now also accommodate more charging power.

The original e-tron was already a premium car certified as carbon neutral, thanks to the expedients put into practice in the factory, and this will also apply to the new version. The plant has been powered by green electricity since 2012, with the 107,000 square meter photovoltaic plant generating approximately 9,000 MWh of electricity per year.

In addition, the electric motors of the Q8 e-tron, built in Györ, Hungary, will no longer be transported by truck but by rail for the 1,300 kilometres. Audi has also confirmed that the same factory will in the future also host the production of the Q4 e-tron, currently built in Zwickau together with its twin sisters on the MEB platform. However, it is not yet clear if production will move entirely, or if it will support the German plant, which struggles to produce all the different cars with the same base.
