It was already talked about in February, ten months ago, but it seems that only now are the NVIDIA partners actually ready to introduce one GeForce RTX 3050 equipped with GA107 GPU. As a rule, the least powerful among desktop video cards from NVIDIA based on the Ampere architecture, based on the GA106 graphics chip.
The GA106 a GPU that in its complete form offers 3840 CUDA cores, while on board the GeForce RTX 3050 there are only 2560 active. This “accidentally” the same number of units as in a fully enabled GA107and precisely for this reason in the months preceding the launch of the card, which took place on January 26, 2022, many indiscretions pointed to the immediate use of the GA107.
Probably due to core segmentation choices between the desktop and notebook areas, in order to have a better allocation, NVIDIA initially chose to confine the GA107 mainly in the mobile world, at least until today. With the dual need to get rid of existing chips to rebalance inventory and focus on next-generation GPUs, GA107 finally lands on the GeForce RTX 3050.
