Nubia has unveiled the next generation of its flagship family gaming smartphones Red Magic 8 Procomposed of the model of the same name and a Plus version which differs in a smaller battery (but faster to charge) and a greater amount of RAM and internal memory.
The rest of the technical data sheet and the design remain identical for both devices, characterized as in previous generations by a mix of transparency, rgb lighting and a complex heat dissipation system which is very useful especially when the processor and graphics card are working at full capacity.
Generations compared
The most substantial novelty on board Red Magic 8 Pro and Pro+ is the new generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip which changes compared to the previous 8+ Gen 1 version mounted on the 7s Pro family, opening the door to better all-round performance, with lower energy consumption.
More responsive screen
The fast type memories go up to 12 GB or 16 GB respectively for ram and 256 GB and 1 TB for storage; the display remains one unit from 6.8 inch amoled type at full hd+ resolution with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, but the touch sampling rate (i.e. finger touch sensitivity) rises from 720 to 960 Hz to give the screen superior responsiveness during the game.
Camera and selfie camera subscreen are updated
If the 16 megapixel selfie camera remains under the display as for 7s Pro and passes to its second generation, the rear multicamera now mounts the “traffic light” sensors instead of inside a protruding squared housing: the main eye passes from 64 to 50 megapixels, but it is bigger and brighter, so it should guarantee higher quality photos; the other two ultra-wide-angle (8 megapixel) and macro (2 megapixel) cameras are identical.
More powerful fans, more intense gaming
The already efficient heat dissipation system of 7s Pro goes up a few steps with 8 Pro which increase the speed of the fans, the extension of the graphite sheets and the action of the vapor chamber. Nubia anticipates that it should also improve signal reception thanks to a new configuration with nine antennas, while both the 3.5 mm jack and the touch buttons on the right side and the “trigger” are confirmed.
The battery of Red Magic 8 Pro is 6000 mAh and fills up at 80 watts for 0 to 100% in 35 minutes, while 8 Pro + drops to 5000 mAh and rises to 165 watts to arrive 100% in just 13 minutes. It is more than probable that only 8 Pro will come to us, because 8 Pro+ with its GaN charger (that’s what it means) would require strict controls for marketing outside of China. The Chinese prices start at 540 and 700 euros respectively, but it is possible that the global version starts from higher figures. While waiting for the release from us too, here is our selection of the best gaming smartphones to play on the go.
