Goodbye to the Immuni app. The Ministry of Health made it known, announcing that starting December 31st the app created in the pandemic period for contact tracing it will no longer be available in stores of mobile applications (Apple, Google, Huawei).
On smartphones on which the app has already been installed, Immuni will no longer work to activate and receive alert notifications of any close contact with other users of the app for the purposes of digital contact tracing. Also, the application it will no longer be usable for the acquisition of the COVID-19 green certifications (Green pass) but only to keep those already acquired.

“It will be possible to recover the COVID-19 green certifications with the other online tools available: IO app, Electronic Health File or directly on the website www.dgc.gov.it”, reports the ministry. The farewell to Immuni is closely linked to decommissioning of the single national platform for the management of the COVID-19 alert system and to the interruption of the processing of personal data carried out by the Ministry of Health pursuant to “article 6 of the decree-law of 30 April 2020, n. 28, converted with amendments by the law of 25 June 2020, n. 70”.
The story of Immuni is that of a great unfinished one. The app, created by Bending Spoons and introduced in mid-June 2020, was well written but was never fully used by users, at times it was accused of collecting less information useful for contact tracing than necessary but above all it seems to have lacked the capacity / willingness of doctors and Local Health Authorities to feed the contact database and therefore send notifications of a possible close contact. In short, a “lame” instrument, used by many mainly used to show the Green pass to enter bars and restaurants.
