Below you will find the list of all the cinematic releases of the month of January with related technical features.

However, the cinematic releases are weekly, with the technical characteristics that are often announced only close to distribution. The list will then be updated as we will have the opportunity to get hold of the official information.

– 2K and 4K indicate the resolution of the film, respectively 2048 x 1080 pixels and 4096 x 2160 pixels at full size. However, the resolution can be slightly different to adapt to the various aspect ratios “Flat” or “Scope” of a film screening. Here are some more common examples:

– 2D, 3D, IMAX (2D / 3D): all films are always offered in 2D with a screen luminance of 14 fL (Foot Lambert) which is equivalent to about 48 nits. In the case of 3D (always with glasses) the luminance drops to 4 fL (about 14 nits) or 6 fL (about 20 nits) depending on the projection system in use in the room. For IMAX theaters, which use proprietary projection systems with a wider aspect ratio, the luminance can go up to 22 fL (about 75 nits) in 2D projection. In any case, these are projections in SDR: in Italy, at the moment, there are no cinemas able to carry out projections in HDR.

– Fps indicate i frames per second of the projection. In most cases, films are shown at a frame rate of 24 frames per second. Some titles not designed exclusively for cinemas are instead projected at 25fps. Beyond these cadences we speak of HFR (High Frame Rate)which can be at 48, 60 or 120 frames per second.

– Regarding theaudio all films are screened in the hall with 48kHz / 24-bit PCM lossless encoding. The number of channels can be multi-channel 5.1, 7.1 or immersive Dolby Atmos (up to a maximum of 128 speakers in the room). Some re-releases of older films may feature PCM 1.0 (mono) or 2.0 (stereo) mixes. In case of projections IMAX extensionproprietary formats are used IMAX 6 Track (6-channel) or IMAX 12 Track (12-channel, including ceiling speakers).
