Biggest losers included UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:), which added 0.01% or 0.04 points to trade at 490.00 in late trade. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:) added 0.65% or 2.06 points to end at 317.53 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:) gained 0.75% or 1.32 points to 176.56.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:) which rose 7.26% to 482.87, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 6.89% to settle at 300.88 and IDEXX Laboratories Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 6.82% to close at 447.77.

The worst performers were Baxter International Inc (NYSE:) which was down 7.84% to 48.45 in late trade, Waters Corporation (NYSE:) which lost 7.15% to settle at 322.21 and Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc (NYSE:) which was down 3.94% to 535.00 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Swvl Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:) which rose 115.36% to 0.30, Medavail Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 80.19% to settle at 0.56 and Golden Sun Education Group Ltd (NASDAQ:) which gained 77.78% to close at 2.24.

The worst performers were Fate Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 61.45% to 4.24 in late trade, Nabriva Therapeutics AG (NASDAQ:) which lost 44.84% to settle at 1.30 and Graphite Bio Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 39.54% to 1.85 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2666 to 452 and 84 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2688 rose and 1087 declined, while 191 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.92% to 21.13.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.66% or 30.50 to $1,871.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.14% or 0.10 to hit $73.77 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.10 to trade at $78.59 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 1.18% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.99% to 132.09.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.12% at 103.65.
