We tried to analyze their profiles to understand how they are moving in view of the elections.

Who is spending the most on the election campaign?

According to what emerges from the usual sponsorship reports on Facebook and Instagram of politicians made available by A halfan unexpected fact emerges. In the quarter from 23 October to 20 January it appears that only one of the top three candidates is investing in social media advertising. It’s about Alessio D’Amator that, in three months, he spent just over 26 thousand euros (26,032, to be precise). However, there are no active promotions by opponents Francesco Rocca and Donatella Bianchi. The data is certainly curious and could be read as an attempt at a comeback (the centre-left candidate, in fact, is far behind his centre-right rival), while for the other two it could mean a sign of tranquility for Rocca (as mentioned already ahead in the polls) and performance for Bianchi.

Follower analysis

Compared to their colleagues in Lombardy, the candidates for the presidency of the Lazio region – let’s face it – are neophytes. There is in front of everyone Alessio D’Amato: to the Pd candidate, to lead the ranking of followers of Instagram“enough” just 2,463 followers. Behind is neck and neck between the other two, who are about to pass the first thousand followers.

Similar speech also for Facebook: here, however, D’Amato leads by a wider margin strong dei 12,685 followers matured in these years as councilor. followed by Donatella Bianchi with 4,647 and by the centre-right exponent who stops at 1,692. Twitter is instead is the land of Roccawhere it matters more than 27,000 followers (27,797)behind it is Donatella Bianchii with 4,406 followers (but there are no references to the electoral campaign on the profile), while bringing up the rear here is D’Amato with 2 thousand followers. Numbers aside, it must be said that Bianchi paid for the choice of having created ad hoc profiles for his electoral campaign, the profiles of her registered as a “public figure” would have guaranteed her a wider following since they were already launched. As with Lombardy, Lazio’s candidates also don’t use TikTok.

How are they doing on social media?

As mentioned, we are faced with three profiles “emerging” from a social point of view and, in fact, our eye even struggles to recognize that they are profiles of candidates for the upcoming elections. In all three profiles we try to find that empathy so sought after by politicians with their electorate and which, often even in an unfortunate way, has been translated by social media managers into epic eating of local products (a la Matteo Salvini, to understand ), photos or memories (like Giorgia Meloni), or hugs and hosannas in the square (Giuseppe Conte style). The result, so far, is certainly less loud and more polite than that of the respective leaders.

Here: here none of the three eats or greets the people who will vote for him (perhaps only D’Amato, he has a few posts in which he has contact with the public). This – mind you – is not a bad thing, but we know by now that i social networks are the business card of a politicianbut too institutional accounts are never too much “nice”. We come to individual cases, starting from Donatella Bianchi: as mentioned earlier, his is a new profile, his first post is from January 13 in which he announces his descent into the field alongside Giuseppe Conte. Among the topics proposed there is obviously a “no to the incinerator of Rome”, a central theme in the fall of the Draghi government and some videos linked to some of his meetings. These reels have one problem (besides being edited horizontally): they all have the same music, and in some cases it’s also very loud.
